This International Women’s Day, we honor the unyielding strength and resilience of women of color, many of whom have risen from disparaging communities to forge paths of empowerment and triumph. My own story—encompassing military service, entrepreneurship, and motherhood—reflects the profound determination and versatility that characterize our experiences.
My journey began with many challenges and adversity at a very young age. The military was my first leap towards rewriting that narrative, teaching me the values of discipline, leadership, and the value of striving for excellence in a challenging environment. This experience laid the foundation for my next chapter in entrepreneurship, where I learned to navigate the complexities of building a business from the ground up, embodying the innovation and perseverance seen in countless women of color who start ventures against the odds.
Motherhood introduced a deeper dimension to my journey, intertwining the personal with the professional. It instilled in me a sense of purpose not just to succeed for myself, but to lay a better foundation for my children and inspire others from similar backgrounds. This dual role highlights the intricate balance many women of color maintain, striving to achieve personal dreams while uplifting their communities.
On International Women’s Day, we celebrate not just the achievements, but also the journeys of women of color from disparaging communities to places of influence and leadership. Our paths are testament to the power of resilience, demonstrating how adversity can be transformed into strength. From overcoming systemic barriers in education and the workforce, to challenging societal norms and breaking cycles of poverty, our stories are filled with moments of triumph against the odds.
This Women’s Day, let’s honor the collective resilience, courage and achievements of women of color worldwide. Our narratives, rich with lessons of overcoming and succeeding, form a powerful testament to the enduring spirit that drives us forward. Together, we can continue to inspire and support one another, building a legacy of empowerment and equality for all women.
